Harness & Accessories
We offer harnesses designed and manufactured specifically for the chalo sulky. Use our sulky harness to pull the chalo sulky, the duo sulky, the dog cart, and/or the child trailer. The sulky harness consists of a padded saddle that supports the hasp, a girth that holds the saddle in place, a collar that rests where the dog's neck joins his body, a chest strap that connect the bottom of the collar with the bottom of the girth, and a belly band to hold the harness in place.

Our harnesses are sewn by Commercial Fabric Manufacturing in Seattle, Washington. The harness can be used for both dorsal shaft and side shaft. Harnesses adjust for different size dogs and are fully padded.

Dogs hitched to the shaft need a sulky harness. Dogs pulling beside them with a tug line to the rear shaft need an adjustable urban trails harness - Becky Loveless of Alpine Outfitters makes this harness.

Our harnesses adjust to average size dogs between say 45 pounds and 90 pounds. Please tell us the breed, age, circumference of the rib cage and weight of your dog. For giant breeds we may need to lengthen straps.

ITEM 3-1
Sulky Cart Harness

The dorsal shaft slides onto the upright hasp of the sulky harness. The hasp is welded to a steel plate that distributes weight safely through layers of padding. The D-rings allow you to attach tuglines to use the harness for ground training and general pulling. The dog pulls his sulky by means of the breast strap between the legs. No strap confines his shoulders. The harness adjusts to fit most dogs. Please advise if your dog is less than 45 pounds or more than 90 pounds. This harness can be used with the side shafts with the addition of snap-on shaft loops. Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. BLACK ONLY.

ITEM 3-2
Side Shaft Harness

This harness is identical to the Sulky harness except that it does not have the steel hasp for the dorsal shaft. It is thoroughly padded to distribute weight from the shafts over the dog's back. Shaft loops snap to the side D-rings. Slip the side shafts through these loops. Attach the traces to the same D-rings. If you wish to use this harness with your existing cart, we can sew larger loops to fit larger diameter shafts. Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. BLACK ONLY.

Driving Reins

The driving reins snap to the driving collar. They are 15 feet at maximum adjustment and made of light weight nylon webbing. The slide snap allows you to adjust them shorter for driving the dog while sitting in the sulky and longer for ground training while walking behind the sulky. Allow 2 weeks for sewing and delivery.

ITEM 3-4
Driving Collar

Collar is adjustable. It has two d-rings so that the right side rein pulls on the right d-ring and the left side rein pulls on the left d-ring. Dogs become very sensitive and responsive to the reins. Your dog's name is embossed in the extra leather on the top of the collar between the d-rings. Allow 2 weeks for sewing and delivery.

Adjustable Sulky Neckline

Adjustable and made with webbing and snaps to keep your dogs from going in different directions from each other. If one dog is attached to the shaft and the other is pulling via a tugline and you are reining only the shaft dog, you can adjust the neckline to its maximum length. If you are reining both dogs, keep the neckline short. Allow 2 weeks for sewing and delivery.

Adjustable Urban Trail Harness

The adjustable urban trails harness is useful for ground training your dog. It is worn by the dogs that pull alongside the shaft. Made by Alpine Outfitters. Allow 2 weeks for sewing and delivery.

Sulky Tugline

The tugline hitches a dog to the rear shaft, sled dog style. One end wraps around the shaft. The other end snaps to the adjustable urban trails harness. The sulky tugline allows more dogs to pull the sulky than just the one or two hitched to the shaft. BLACK ONLY.

Two Dog Hitch

The two dog hitch accommodates dogs of slightly different heights. If your dogs differ by more than two inches, hitch the shaft to the taller dog or better trained dog. Let the shorter dog wear an urban trails harness and pull with a tug line attached to the rear shaft.

Sulky Stand

People tend to climb on or try to sit on the sulky when it is parked. This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS as the sulky tips over backwards when it is not hitched to a dog. Thestand reduces the likelihood of it tipping.

Warning Sign

Please do not sit in Sulky - it will tip over.

Laser etched on a painted aluminum plate. Sign rests on sulky seat. The best safety measure, though, is to tip the sulky over when tying the dogs up in a public place. Do not leave it in a tempting position. Even in your garage, tip the sulky. You never know when a child or adult might pass through and "just want to try it out".
